Well, itās official... winter has arrived across Bendigo and Central Victoria and with it comes a whole new set of challenges for homeowners and roofers alike.
For us at T&T Roofing Bendigo, this time of year becomes a constant balancing act between getting jobs completed and waiting for the weather to cooperate. Roof painting, gutter replacements and full roof replacements all rely heavily on dry conditions, which means many of our larger projects become a case of watching forecasts and grabbing every opportunity when the sun decides to show itself.
But while some jobs slow down during winter, one thing certainly doesn't...
Roof leaks.
Every year as the rain sets in, we start receiving calls from homeowners who suddenly discover problems that may have been quietly developing for months. A cracked roof tile, rusted flashing, blocked valley, ageing roof screws or overflowing gutters can all remain unnoticed through summer before becoming very obvious during winter rain.
The team has spent the past few weeks investigating leaks across Bendigo and surrounding areas. Whether it's pouring rain, icy winds or mornings where it feels like it everything is about to freeze over, the boys are still out there doing their best to keep homes dry and protected.
As for me? Well, I'm not nearly as enthusiastic about winter.
If there's rain outside, there's a very good chance you'll find me asleep somewhere warm. In fact, one of my favourite winter activities is watching the boys leave for work while I stay inside next to a heater pretending I haven't noticed them. š¶
Fun Cora Fact #1: I absolutely hate rain. The boys can spend all day on a roof in miserable weather, but I won't even walk onto wet grass if I can avoid it.
Fun Cora Fact #2: Despite being a large dog, winter somehow turns me into a professional blanket thief. If there's a blanket available, it's probably mine now.
Fun Cora Fact #3: Most people think roofers spend winter painting roofs, but winter is actually one of the busiest times for leak investigations because rain exposes roofing issues that homeowners haven't noticed before.
The biggest lesson winter teaches homeowners every year is that small roofing problems rarely stay small. A minor leak today can become damaged plaster, mould growth, insulation damage or timber rot if left unattended.
That's why winter is actually one of the best times to inspect your roof. If something isn't performing properly, the weather will usually reveal it.
While we're eagerly waiting for enough sunshine to continue our roof painting and gutter replacement projects throughout Bendigo, Castlemaine, Daylesford, Woodend, Kyneton and surrounding areas,
we'll continue helping homeowners track down leaks and protect their homes from the worst winter can throw at them.
Until next week...
Stay warm, stay dry, and if you're lucky enough to be indoors next to a heater, enjoy it on my behalf. š¾
